For exchange students

Due to the current spread of the COVID-19 virus, Ghent University has decided to cancel all incoming and outgoing study exchanges for the second semester of the academic year 2020-2021. Some exchanges in the context of a clinical traineeship or field work/research will still be possible, but only from 01 May 2021 onwards. Please contact the International Coordinator within the study programme (see below) for further information. We kindly ask for your understanding and look forward to hosting you in the future.

General Information

We are pleased to welcome you to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ghent University!

To be able to study at our faculty, your home university must have a bilateral agreement with our department. Your home university’s international coordinator or Erasmus Office can inform you if this is the case.

Study Programmes

More detailed information for each study programme with exchange possibilities can be found here:

Application Procedure

The application deadlines are 15 May (1st semester) and 15 November (2nd semester).

Complete the following steps of the application procedure.

Learning Agreement

You need to upload a signed learning agreement to your exchange application, under ‘documents’. Please use the correct template for studies, traineeship or exchange PhD research.

At the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences the official language of instruction is Dutch.

However, some programmes offer courses taught in English or certain facilities (e.g. internship) to English-speaking students. We expect a very good knowledge of English from incoming students (CEF B2-level or higher). Be aware that you will not be allowed to start if you do not meet the language requirements.

Buddy Programme

Studying abroad comes with a lot of excitement but could also be a bit confusing at the start. For example, as a new student at our faculty, you may not find your way around campus right away. In order to make you feel welcome at our faculty and to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible, we have set up a buddy programme. Once you are accepted as an incoming student, you will be contacted by your buddy!

Welcome Days

The Welcome Days too are designed to make your transition to Ghent University and university life as smooth as possible. When you attend the Welcome Days, you will find a wide variety of sessions, events, and social gatherings to help you get to know the university and city better, find answers to your questions, and make new friends.
