Digimeter – Measuring media/technology usage and expectations in Flanders

  • Flanders

  • Digital transformation
  • Technology and innovation

Digimeter annually tracks trends in media and technology ownership and usage in Flanders. The report also highlights the expectations and attitudes of the population towards media, ICT and technological innovation.

Project description

How many Flemish people have a smartphone in their pocket, and what do they do with it? How popular is Netflix and Spotify in Flanders? Is Flanders using smart speakers? And how comfortable are they with the increased digitization of society?

Digimeter aims to assess the current state of media and technology use in Flanders on an annual basis. More specifically, the report seeks to gain insight into the demand that Flemish people have for media, ICT, and technology (possession), how they effectively use these media, ICT, and technology (usage) and how they feel about them (attitude). As a result, Digimeter provides a first-class understanding of digital transformation in Flanders. The evidence-based insights from the report can further assist companies in shaping their business strategies.

Aims of the report

The Digimeter conducts an annual assessment of media and technology ownership and use among the Flemish population, as well as related attitudes and expectations. This is done by surveying a representative sample of at least 1500 Flemish citizens aged 18 and older.

Digimeter monitors:

  1. The way Flemish citizens own and use media and technology, and their expectations and attitudes towards them.
  2. How Flemish citizens navigate technological paradoxes and digital transformation, and how and to what extent they experience the digital divide.
  3. The extent to which Flemish citizens are familiar with innovative technologies (e.g., 5G, Metaverse, cryptocurrencies, NFTs) and their prevailing attitudes towards artificial intelligence.

Outcomes

The outcomes of this study are presented in a (Dutch) downloadable report.
