Enrolment with a diploma of the French or German Community (Belgium)

You want to enrol in a bachelor's program

Your secondary school diploma from the French or German-speaking Community of Belgium gives direct access to the bachelor's programs. However, you must meet the language admission requirements. 

All bachelor programs for which you can enrol at UGent are instructed in Dutch. 

Upon final enrolment, you must provide proof of the required level of knowledge of Dutch.
Exception: you are exempted from this language requirement if Dutch was part of your curriculum.

Make your enrolment application online in advance and finalize your enrolment during the enrolment period.

You want to enrol in a master's program

You have to meet the admission requirements for a master's program.

Diplomas of the French or German Community of Belgium are not included in the standard list of admission requirements. This means that you will have to ask the faculty for permission before enrolment.

Master's programs are instructed in Dutch or English.

Upon final enrolment, you must provide proof of the required level of knowledge of Dutch and/or English.
If you have a diploma of secondary education issued by (an educational institution recognized by) the French or German-speaking Community, you are exempted from the language admission requirement of Dutch if Dutch was part of your curriculum and you are exempted from the language admission requirement of English.

Depending on your diploma, you will have or admission to the master's program or admission to a preparation program or linking program leading to the master's program.

  1. First do your enrolment application and contact the learning path counsellor of the program asking permission to enrol.
  2. Then do your final enrolment during the enrolment period. 

You want to enrol in a postgraduate program

Diplomas of the French or German Community of Belgium are not included in the standard list of admission requirements. This means that you will have to ask the faculty for permission before enrolment.

Postgraduate programs are instructed in Dutch or English. 

Upon final enrolment, you must provide proof of the required level of knowledge of Dutch and/or English.
If you have a diploma of secondary education issued by (an educational institution recognized by) the French or German-speaking Community, you are exempted from the language admission requirement of Dutch if Dutch was part of your curriculum and you are exempted from the language admission requirement of English.

You want to enrol in a predoctoral training program, doctoral training program or doctorate

The general admission requirement for enrolment for a doctorate (PhD) is a master's diploma or equivalent of a recognized Belgian higher education institution.

Doctoral training programs are instructed in English. 

Upon final enrolment, you must provide proof of the required level of knowledge of English. If you have a secondary education diploma issued by (an educational institution recognized by) the French or German-speaking Community, you are exempted from this language requirement.
