Registration
Each graduate may bring a maximum of three guests. Registration is mandatory and will open here on 17 August. The registration deadline is Saturday, 19 September.
Practical information
- On the day of the ceremony, please go to the registration desk on the Rectorate side of the venue. Registration starts one hour before the start of your session and ends no later than 10 minutes before it begins. All graduates will receive a seat number upon registration.
- Graduates and their guests (maximum of three) must register together at the registration desk.
- Graduates are only permitted to attend their assigned graduation session.
- After registration, you may collect your graduation gown and cap. To do so, you will need to leave your ID card at the desk. Your ID card will be returned to you when you return your gown after the graduation ceremony.
- The graduation ceremony will begin promptly at the scheduled time.
- The ceremony will be livestreamed. Therefore, all graduates must sit in their assigned seats. It is important to respect the seating arrangement, as otherwise the wrong graduate may appear on screen when names are announced.
- Graduates who arrive late will not be allowed to sit with the other graduates and will instead be seated at the back of the hall (and will therefore not appear on screen).
- By registering for the graduation ceremony, you consent to the livestream, the photo session, and the publication of recordings and photographs on the faculty website after the event.
- Information about parking facilities in Ghent can be found at: https://stad.gent/nl/mobiliteit-openbare-werken/parkeren

You can collect your diploma after your graduation session during the reception. If you are unable to attend and would like someone else to collect your diploma on your behalf, you must provide that person with a letter of authorisation (proxy).

Membership Alumni Association AIG
As a newly graduated engineer, you are now part of AIG, the alumni association that connects graduates of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture after their studies. AIG is one of the most dynamic alumni associations at Ghent University and organises more than 30 diverse activities each year:
-
Lectures, such as the popular TechBoost! (in the UFO) and Update@Campus sessions on current topics, followed by extensive receptions (often featuring local beers) to catch up and network.
-
Exclusive site and company visits at leading organisations (such as the visit to ESA and the Oosterweel construction site in 2025), made possible through the wide alumni network.
-
Award ceremonies, including the Engineer of the Year presentation, and the finals of the Jozef Plateau Prize and Leo Baekeland Prize, where the best master’s thesis title is contested.
-
Friendly reunions where alumni meet up, including the annual After Summer Drink in the historic Saint Peter’s Abbey.
For recent graduates, there is the Engage programme, in which young engineers organise practical workshops, inspiring lectures and festive activities for their peers.
As an AIG member, you also enjoy extra benefits with the student societies of our faculty, such as free tickets for VTK events (Show, Vooruit parties...) and a free invitation to the exclusive alumni reception at the Engineers’ Gala Ball.
As an AIG member, you will receive the alumni magazine AIG News each quarter, and you will also get the Ghent University alumni card, which allows you to eat at student rates in the university restaurants and to use the GUSB sports facilities.
