Lecture by Professor Calum Neill, Edinburgh Napier University

The discourse will consider Lacan’s reading of Marx (16th seminar) and his extension of Marx’s thinking to the novel concept of surplus enjoyment. Prof Neill will discuss the question of analogy between both concepts and how they alter and transfer sense when carried over from one realm to another.

The approach of economy as a science still misses fundamental insights of psychoanalysis and therefore a critical approach of enduring economical strategies as e.g. the model of capitalism partly fails. The discourse will present a critical reading of Lacan and seek to engage PhD candidates and interested students in a close reading and an open dialogue around the text.
