Huurperiodes voor internationale gasten, personeelsleden en PhD-studenten
The Housing Department has a total of about 2,200 housing units available. The various housing units are divided into quotas according to type of enrollment (exchange students, degree students, PhD students, international staff and visitors, etc.).
Because demand exceeds supply, priority rules and delineated lease terms are defined.
For international PhD students, visitors and staff members:
- The rental period is limited to a maximum of 6 months. If one is in Ghent for a longer period, such a bridging period of 6 months should suffice to find a permanent solution for the remaining period of their stay.
- The minimum rental period is half a month. This keeps the file management and maintenance of the housing units manageable and well-organized.
It is only possible to rent by fixed rental periods of half a month:
- The rental agreement thus starts the 1st or the 16th day of the month(*).
- The lease always ends on the 15th day of the month (exception February 14) or on the last day of the month.
(*) Please note that the start date of an agreement will be moved to the following business day if 8 working hours are not available between a check-out and check-in. This is necessary for inspection, repairs to and cleaning of the accommodation.
