A seminar from Prof Carciofi and Dr. Spranghers regarding extrusion and alternative proteins for food and feed and animal health.

Prof dr. Aulus Carciofi: More Than a Kibble: Implications of Extrusion Processing Conditions for Canine and Feline Health”: Extrusion parameters (temperature, moisture, shear, residence time) determine kibble structure and processing effects. These factors can influence nutrient availability, palatability, and the formation or degradation of heat‑sensitive compounds. Such changes may affect digestion, gastrointestinal outcomes, and metabolic responses in dogs and cats. Clarifying these links supports evidence‑based formulation and quality control of pet food.

Dr. Thomas Spranghers “Bothering Us from Land to Sea… Yet More Valuable Than We Think: Seaweed & Insects as Future Food and Feed”: The presentation will focus on practical valorization: processing insects into functional foods/ingredients and upgrading rearing waste (for example as antifungal agents), and transforming seaweed into stable, nutrient‑rich fractions and products.
