This Meet the Expert activity consists of an organised roundtable with the jury members and PhD and postdoctoral scholars.

The roundtable brings together scholars across disciplinary boundaries to reconsider whether traditional accounts of the division between the 18th and 19th centuries - and more broadly, established narratives of literary modernity - still hold in light of recent research on translation, materiality, cultural transfer, and empire.

In an open dialogue with each other and the audience, the speakers will respond to the open-ended question of ‘where we go from here?’ They will explore what novel periodizations and configurations of historical literary cultures might emerge from attending to the contemporary theorization of textual transmission across languages.

Participants will engage in moderated discussion, encouraging dialogue across their fields and periods of expertise, including translation studies, literary studies, book history, and historical media studies.

Attendance and engagement on the part of PhD and postdoctoral scholars is warmly encouraged.
