The theory of the 1 or 2: Ish Ait Hamou in dialogue with Ghent University students
(12-03-2024) On Thursday evening 21 March 2024, Ish Ait Hamou engages with the audience around his 'Theory of the 1 or 2'.
Ish began his career as a dancer and choreographer. In the 2010s, he became known to the general public through his work for television (including as choreographer and jury member in the Dutch-Flemish version of the international show programme 'So You Think You Can Dance') and gradually more and more also as an author, scriptwriter, director and theatre maker.
Because he combines his love of performing arts with that of words, he prefers to describe himself not as a dancer, choreographer, writer or director, but as a storyteller.
In dialogue with UGent students
On Thursday evening 21 March 2024, Ish Ait Hamou, who will receive an institutional honorary doctorate from Ghent University on 22 March, will enter into a dialogue with the public around his latest work: his 'Theory of the 1 or 2'. A personally-tinged essay on identity, distress, mutual envy and the Moroccan community.
In addition, some students will interpret his theory in their own way in an art form.
The Faculteiten Konvent welcomes you after the lecture in a cosy bar with live music to complete the evening.
