YOUR TASKS
The Ghent Health Psychology Lab (Department of Experimental-Clinical and Health Psychology, Ghent University) is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic PhD student to join an exciting research project investigating how (chronic) pain affects the interaction between motor preparation and cognitive processes. You will have the opportunity to work with a multi-method research approach, integrating behavioral, neurophysiological (EEG), and psychophysiological (pupillometry) methods in a Virtual Reality environment.
Your role
- Dedicate at least 90% of your time to academic research in preparation of your doctoral dissertation.
- Support teaching activities, including supervision of master’s theses.
- Contribute to service tasks within the research group and the department.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services, specifically related to the domain of (chronic) pain and/or motor preparation processes. Research experience in the field of clinical (health) psychology, experimental psychology, or cognitive neurosciences is a plus.
- You have strong research skills, and you are motivated to further develop these skills in function of the research project. Practical experience with EEG research (data-processing included) is highly recommended.
- You are willing to engage for 4 years into scientific research, and you are strongly motivated to obtain a PhD.
- You are open for international mobility, and you are willing to conduct a research stay in Maastricht University during your PhD. Prior participation in scientific symposia and/or conferences is a plus.
- You can work independently. You are creative and a problem solver.
- You can collaborate within a team. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- You are highly proficient in spoken and written English.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
- We offer a full-time position as a doctoral fellow, consisting of an initial period of 12 months, which - after a positive evaluation, will be extended to a total maximum of 48 months.
- Your contract will start on 01/11/2025 at the earliest.
- The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member in equal family circumstances. The individual fellowship amount is determined by Team Personnel Administration based on family status and seniority. A grant that meets the conditions and criteria of the regulations for doctoral fellowships is considered free of personal income tax. Click here for more information about our salary scales
