Financial compensation

ISG is a non-profit organization and does not receive subsidies from the Flemish government. Financing for all operational costs is therefore covered by income from tuition fees.

Ghent University is one of the founding members of ISG and we realize that the annual school fee (2022-2023) of €14,500 - 15,500 per child is a big expense for most families.

Ghent University therefore offers the possibility to submit an application for financial support. Please note that there is always a minimum charge to the parent(s)/guardian(s): €900 admission fee (per family, one-time) and at least 25% of the tuition fee. The following profiles are eligible:

  • the children of Ghent University appointed or appointed (foreign) ZAP members and (foreign) IOF mandate holders with an appointment of at least 2 years and at least 70% who move their main residence from abroad to Belgium;
  • the children of (foreign) postdoctoral researchers recruited by Ghent University with an academic assignment, with an appointment of at least 10 months and at least 70% who transfer their main residence from abroad to Belgium (including FWO postdoctoral researchers);
  • the children of Ghent University staff members who move their main residence from Belgium to another country within the framework of a Ghent University departmental assignment, insofar as it is desirable for these children, with a view to their imminent relocation, to attend international education now.

A principal place of residence is to be understood here as the place where a family or a single person usually lives.
The children of the staff member or of his spouse or cohabiting partner living under the same roof are considered to be children.

Duration of grant

The grant of the scholarship is limited in duration:

  • for the children of Ghent University appointed or appointed (foreign) ZAP members and (foreign) IOF mandate holders: a scholarship for a maximum of 6 school years
  • for the children of (foreign) postdoctoral researchers recruited by Ghent University with an academic mission: a grant for a maximum of 6 school years
  • for the children of Ghent University staff members who move their main residence from Belgium to another country in the context of a UGent service assignment: a scholarship during the school year immediately preceding the service assignment.

Compensation is not guaranteed – the final decision will be communicated after examination of the application. The level of support provided by Ghent University may vary per application.
