What has changed?

Some elements that will affect your reapplication for AJ 2026-2027. All changes are described in the Internal Rules & Regulations, be sure to read them!

Go ahead and check the rental prices for next academic year as well.

Deadlines

REAPPLICATION

Reapplications can be submitted from Feb. 16 through Feb. 28 at the latest. After February 28, you will irrevocable lose priority as a reapplicant.
New: if you have entered a mobile phone number in OASIS, we will notify you by text message of the reapplication period.

INTERNAL MOVE

SIGN YOUR RENTAL AGREEMENT

  • You will receive your rental agreement in March (instead of June).
    • Upon receipt, you have 7 days to sign your rental agreement. Any agreements not signed will be cancelled and immediately offered to new applicant students!
    • The rental agreement must still be signed (preferably digitally) via itsme or Belgian eID/residence card.
    • Just turned 18, or never signed digitally? Get your digital signing capabilities in order and visit your city hall to activate this on your ID card.
  • New: we will also notify you (once only) via SMS (in Dutch) if you mentioned a mobile phone number in OASIS.

Flats home Heymans

  • Starting from 2026-2027, only international PhD-students can apply for a flat at home Heymans. Current residents can stay in their flats.

Text message function

To help you keep track of the new deadlines, starting in 2025, we will send a text message to your cell phone number (whether yours or a parent's) entered in OASIS. If necessary, change your information in OASIS.

Rent Arrears (deadline = reapplication)

Reapplications are still only considered on the condition that there are no rent arrears. So be sure to check in OASIS that you have no overdue (past due) invoices, otherwise your submitted application will be cancelled.

Erasmus, other exchange or internship?

  • You apply for a room for a full academic year anyway.
    • Is your exchange or internship included in your curriculum? Then you may sublet your reapplied room.
  • Read all about it at subletting your room.

Obtaining a master's degree in 2025-2026?

If you obtain a master's degree in 2025-2026, you may no longer reside in the homes.

  • Master's degree in first semester (January/February): your contract will be terminated on 15.02.
  • Master's degree in second semester (May/June/July): your contract will be terminated on the scheduled end date (13.09.2026)
    • You can request to terminate your contract on 15.07 via accommodatie@ugent.be
    • Any subsequent agreement (for AJ 2026-2027) will be cancelled immediately.
  • Master's degree in August/September: your contract will end on the scheduled end date (13.09.2026)
    • Any subsequent agreement (for AJ 2026-2027) will be cancelled immediately.

Renovations

Keep in mind the renovation schedule of the homes: residents who rent a living unit in a building that is no longer offered will be given priority to move to another home/residence.

  • Home Boudewijn is currently undergoing renovation work until September 15 2026 and will be available again.
  • Homes Astrid and Fabiola will not be available in Academic Years 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 due to renovation. 
  • Home Vermeylen will not be available in Academic Years 2028-2029 and 2029-2030 due to renovation.
