Alumni
Why does Ghent University process data relating to alumni?
Former students of Ghent University are our most important ambassadors, whom we would like to bring together in the Ghent University alumni database.
Alumni data are only used in the context of alumni activities for data and membership management, sending the alumni newsletter and other faculty or programme-related announcements.
As a Ghent University alumnus, you can always consult your data and privacy preferences and, if necessary, adjust them via your own registration/registration in Infinitum. You can also delete your account on Infinitum at any time.
What data is processed and why?
Possible personal data that Ghent University processes of its alumni are (depending on the context):
- Identification data such as surname, first name, address, date and place of birth, nationality, student number
- Contact information such as phone number, email address
- Information about diplomas obtained at Ghent University (diploma + graduation year)
- Professional experience
- Alumni Association Memberships
- Diplomas and certificates obtained at other educational institutions
These personal data are collected on the basis of a legitimate interest of Ghent University (the result of a balance between the interest of Ghent University in a flourishing alumni activity on the one hand and the privacy of the former students on the other, which is guaranteed by the way in which the alumni circles process this data) and the consent.
The processing of personal data of alumni will cease at the time you invoke your right to object. You will therefore no longer receive any communication.
