Donors

Your support can make a difference, for example, for a research or education project that is close to your heart.

What data is processed and why?

Possible personal data that Ghent University processes from its donors are (depending on the context):

  • Identification data such as surname, first name, address, date of birth
  • Financial data such as the account number and the amount of the donation
  • Contact information such as phone number, email address

The personal data of donors, potential donors and sympathisers are processed by Ghent University in order to be able to process your donation correctly, to send you communication about the operation of Ghent University (including fundraising) and to be able to provide you with a tax certificate (Discharge issued in application of Article 145³³, § 1, second paragraph, of the Income Tax Code 1992).

These personal data are collected and processed on the basis of a legal obligation and on the basis of a legitimate interest of the University Fund of Ghent University (the result of a balance between the interest of Ghent University in creating and optimising a relational bond, a university community and a contribution to the social relevance of donations for research and education on the one hand, and the privacy of the donors on the other,  guaranteed by the way in which Ghent University processes this data)

If you no longer wish to receive communications, you can notify us via universiteitsfonds@ugent.be.

Who is your data shared with?

Within Ghent University, your personal data will be processed by the staff of the University Fund and the Financial Administration. This data will be passed on to the Ghent University employees and founders of the charity you support within Ghent University. If you made a donation as part of a fundraiser, your data will also be shared with the fundraiser organiser. Your personal data will not be passed on to other third parties.

The public disclosure of a donor's personal data (for example as a thank you on a Ghent University website) will only take place after permission from the donor concerned.

How long will your data be kept?

Your personal data will be stored and used until the University Fund receives a message to the contrary, because Ghent University wants to continue to maintain the relational relationship with donors and initiators of collection campaigns. If you wish to delete your profile, you can notify us via universiteitsfonds@ugent.be.
