The new academic year is about to start
(17-09-2025) On Friday 19 September 2025, Ghent University will officially open the academic year 2025-2026 with a formal opening ceremony in the Ufo at 15:30. Classes will start on Monday 22 September.
This year the opening of the academic year is a special moment: the rector's handover will take place during the opening session. Rector Rik Van de Walle and Vice-Rector Mieke Van Herreweghe will hand over the reins to Rector-elect Petra De Sutter and Vice-Rector-elect Herwig Reynaert.
