Welcome Days for International Students

The Welcome Days are designed to make your transition to UGent and university life as smooth as possible. When you attend the Welcome Days, you will find a wide variety of sessions, events, and social gatherings to help you get to know the university and city better, find answers to your questions, and make new friends.

Welcome to Ghent University! We have been preparing for your arrival and are very excited that you have made the decision to join us.

Hi Students

Ghent University is ready to welcome you on the official Welcome Day, Thursday 21st September where everyone is invited to join. You can find the programme here .
If you couldn’t register for the social programme, you can still join these activities that are open for all students.

Wednesday, 20th. September : Sing together.
               At 16.00 hrs in NEST – Graaf Van Vlaandereplein 40 Gent

Friday, 22nd. September : ESN Guided Walking tour;
               At 14.00 hrs in THE KROOK – Miriam Makebaplein 1 Gent

Friday, 22nd. September : ESN Welcome Party
               At 23.00 hrs in The Twitch – Overpoortstraat 9 Gent

On Tuesday 19th. September, ESN students will welcome you at the railway station Gent Sint-Pieters from 10 till 17 hrs.


For whom?

The Welcome Days are open to all NEW international students (exchange, degree and PhD) of UGent. Students who were already registered at UGent in the past cannot be accepted.

The programme is free of charge; participation is strongly recommended. We advise you to plan your arrival date in Ghent minimum 1 day before the start of the Welcome Days. 

Please keep in mind that, if you have lessons, courses, lab work, etc… on the Welcome days, you need to contact your professor/promoter and ask whether you can take part.

The Welcome Days are organised by the International Relations Office of Ghent University, in co-operation with the Province of East-Flanders, the City of Ghent, ESN Gent and many other helping hands.

Practical information

Ghent University is pleased to welcome you on 20 - 21 - 22th of September 2017 at the UFO, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 33 in Ghent for an unforgettable kickoff event.

During these ‘Welcome Days’ you will get the opportunity to meet other students and get acquainted with Ghent University and the City of Ghent so to ensure you will have access to all the information you need to start your study and life in Ghent.
The program is free of charge, but registration is necessary, both for the mandatory and the social activities, because places are limited.
