On 25 September 2026, Ghent University will host the Belgian Association for the Study of Islam, Culture and Society (BASICS) for a full day of academic exchange.
The programme includes parallel panel sessions, a keynote lecture "Middle East Studies in the Age of Catastrophe" by well-known Prof Sherene Seikaly (UC Santa Barbara), and a concluding discussion, followed by an informal reception.
The event brings together scholars working on Islam, culture, history, politics and society, and offers an opportunity to connect across disciplines.
