On Wednesday 10 December, we welcome dr. Robin Chang (RWTH Aachen University) to give a lecture on uncertainty and risks in temporary uses.
Temporary use initiatives, who use space in between two ‘permanent’ functions, are often said to be experimental, inclusive and creative uses of space.
As they provide often affordable space, they function as (spatial) incubators for their users and serve as prefigurations of space. Taking risks is often inherently part of the initiative. This creates, however, also precarious and uncertain conditions to work with and in.
Dr. Chang will enlighten us on the uncertainties temporary uses face, how these initiatives embrace them and aim to stabilise. Dr. Chang is a research associate, lecturer and postdoctoral fellow at RWTH Aachen University. Dr. Chang has published multiple works on the topic of Temporary Use of Space.
This event is linked to the Master’s Thesis Atelier ‘Temporalily depleted?’, an Atelier in context of the Stadsacademie.
