Academic Lecture series at Ghent University to put 160 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium in the spotlight!

The East Asia Platform will contribute to the festivities of 160 Years Friendship between Belgium & Japan, by organizing a Lecture Café Series focusing on Japan.

5 lectures at lunch time (12h00-14h00) in the Sint-Baafshuis (De Kapel) in the city center of Ghent:

  • Tuesday 3 March 2026: lecture by Prof. Anna Andreeva and Prof. Andreas Niehaus Institute of Japanese Studies, UGent “Japanese-Belgium/ Ghent relations” - “Japanese art objects in Belgium”
  • Tuesday 24 March 2026: lecture by Dr. Hera Van Sande, Archipel "The power of spatial poetics in Japan and Flanders"
  • Tuesday 21 April 2026: lecture by Prof. Dr. Luk Van Haute, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, UGent “Watching Japanese Cinema in Belgium: Some Personal ReflSome Personal Reflections Through the Ages”
  • Tuesday 5 May 2026: lecture by TechTransfer Office, Daikin Europe & Bio INX “Tech Lane Ghent Science Park: ambitions and collaboration with Japan”
