This lecture offers an overview of how primary care is organised and delivered in Scotland, with a focus on improving equity in healthcare.

Professor Kate O’Donnell will discuss the role of general practice within the wider system and key challenges related to access, workforce, and health inequalities.

The session highlights the GPs at the Deep End initiative, which brings together practices serving the most socioeconomically deprived communities. It explores how these practices address complex, intersecting patient needs and what lessons they offer for strengthening person-centred and equity-oriented care.

The lecture also creates space for researchers, PhD candidates, and academic staff to exchange knowledge and reflect on international approaches to primary care, equity, and improving access and responsiveness in healthcare systems.
