Lezing 'Meet the Expert - Axonal excitability to focused ultrasound neuromodulation'

Ultrasound has gained attention in the last decade for the application of high-precision non-invasive neuromodulation. Ultrasound can reach deep targets with millimetre precision and without surgery, in contrast to existing electrostimulation technologies such as deep brain stimulation. Ultrasound is highly promising for sensorimotor restoration, due to its potential for axon-type selectivity, non-invasiveness and good spatial resolution.

In this lecture, Dr. Elena Vicari (Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) will present her findings on experimental and computational focused ultrasound neuromodulation, including ex-vivo on rat dorsal rootlets, in-vivo on the rat sciatic nerve, computational models of peripheral axons and translational research towards human sensory feedback applications.
