Lezing 'Meet the expert - Wildfire Impact in the Built Environment: From Fire Propagation to Community-Scale Risk'

Wildfires that spread into communities involve complex interactions among wildland fire behavior, wind, vegetation, the built environment, and multiple mechanisms of structure ignition. This talk will present a computational framework for modeling fire propagation from the wildland into the built environment. Applications to selected recent wildfire events will be used to discuss model validation, key assumptions and uncertainties, and the use of simulations to investigate community-scale fire spread and mitigation strategies. The talk will conclude with how these modeling capabilities can be extended from individual fire scenarios to probabilistic assessment of wildfire risk at the community scale
