Overview of all employee benefits
Compensation
At Ghent University, you will receive a salary according to established salary scales. Several factors determine the salary scale: the personnel category, the level of the position and your work experience. In each vacancy notice you can read which salary scales and/or grades are linked to the position.
Your salary increases as you build up experience. Seniority accrued with previous employers is included in the calculation of your salary under certain conditions. The salary is supplemented by an end-of-year allowance and holiday allowance.
There is a financial contribution from Ghent University for commuting to and from the workplace by public transport and/or bicycle from your legal residence or home.
As a full-time employee of Ghent University, you are entitled to 36 days off, supplemented by statutory and decree holidays. You also get days off between Christmas and New Year to replace holidays that fall on Saturdays or Sundays. Some holiday periods are fixed, such as the week of the Ghent Festivities and some other days.

With a large car-free zone covering almost the entire city centre, the city of Ghent is sustainability-minded and encourages foot and two-wheeled traffic.
